Jason Romano learned incredible lessons during his seventeen years as a producer at ESPN–and these fundamentals for success on the field or court work just as well in other spheres of leadership, especially when you add God’s direction to the playbook.

This collection of compelling, inspiring, and often funny stories challenges readers to ask themselves the hard questions. It draws them into introspection and then directs them into action so they can cultivate habits of service and excellence in themselves and in those around them. Pew Sisters by Katie Schuermann

Description:

This 12-session Bible study for women goes and tells what God has done in the lives of real women in the church today. From alcoholism to postpartum depression to cancer, twelve different women generously share the story of God’s faithfulness in their lives for the consolation of their sisters in Christ.

Each session begins with a scripture reading followed by a narrative of an individual woman”s real-life story. Eight study questions, designed for both personal and group study, help the reader apply the reading and narrative to her own life in Christ.

The goal of this study is to encourage and build up the faith of our Christian sisters. Every woman sitting in the pew has a story to share of God’s faithfulness in her life, and women love nothing more than to hear a good story and to delight in the sisterhood of believers.

Foundations 101

Description:

What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus? One of the last instructions that Jesus gave to His Apostles was, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations…” In attempting to make disciples, we oftentimes focus on teaching a person what we might refer to as the Christian disciplines. These are things that Christians do, such as Prayer, Bible Study, Baptism, Church Attendance, Evangelism, Tithing, etc… While these are all good and important, the practice of these things is not the proof of our being a disciple of Jesus. In John 13, Jesus said this, “By this, all men will know that you are My disciples – if you have a love for one another.” This is Jesus’ definition of a true disciple – one who loves. In these classes, we have one primary hope and goal, that you will become fully established, rooted, and grounded in the inward experience and outward expression of God’s love. If you learn nothing else but this, we will consider it a fantastic success! Love is the solid foundation upon which strong, successful lives are built in Christ. This foundational experience of love and thankfulness is the lifestyle that we hope to see established in you.

Friend of Sinners: Why Jesus Cares More About Relationship Than Perfection by Rich Wilkerson Jr.

Description:

Pastor and writer Rich Wilkerson Jr. shine a spotlight on every Christian’s calling to reach the world, seek the lost, and save sinners with Jesus’ scandalous message of the gospel of grace.

The Bible calls Jesus a friend of sinners. What does that mean? In Friend of Sinners, Rich Wilkerson Jr. shows readers the profound implications of the reality that Jesus calls us friends not because of who we are or what we have done, but because of who he is. While he was on earth, he knew that people needed to belong before they would want to behave. He understood that the power within him was greater than the darkness around him, so he loved fearlessly.

By following his example, we can have the same clear conviction and compassion for the loss that he did. His gospel of scandalous grace cannot be overestimated. When we embrace the truth that we all need Jesus equally and when we trust him to bring transformation in people’s hearts, we will walk as Jesus walked, experiencing the glory of God in our own lives and in the lives of those around us.

The Pursuit of God by A.W. Tozer

Description:

“The tragedy is that our eternal welfare depends upon our hearing, and we have trained our ears not to hear.” – A. W. Tozer

For millions of Christians, God is no more real than He is to the non-Christian,” Tozer wrote. “They go through life trying to love an ideal and be loyal to a mere principle.” But Tozer, who spent hours each week praying, said there is hope for those who hunger for and pursue God: “We need never shout across the spaces to an absent God. He is nearer than our own soul, closer than our most secret thoughts.

The Pursuit of God is for those who want to know God more — his holiness, his riches, his love — and to worship Him as did the saints of Scripture.

In 10 concise chapters, Tozer explores the “mysterious depths” of God like few authors can with updated language to enhance your understanding. Each chapter concludes with a prayer by Tozer and reflection/discussion questions for personal reflection.

Do you desire to know God? To have inward peace like never before? To see your faith refreshed and renewed? To have your life transformed by a walk with God you didn’t think was possible?

We Saved You A Seat by Lisa-Jo Baker

Description:

We Saved You a Seat – Teen Girls’ Bible Study Book: Finding and Keeping Lasting Friendships – We Saved You a Seat takes girls deeper into Scripture to learn how to create, invest in, and keep up lifelong friendships. Jesus is the role model for our friendships, and Scripture is the foundation. Some of the best and most difficult work God calls us to do is to love other people. In a culture where friendship is measured in follows, likes, mentions, and snaps, and being “unfriended” is a very real worry, girls often think they need to have it all together—the pressure for perfection creates distance instead of real, authentic relationships.

Why Suffering?: Finding Meaning and Comfort When Life Doesn't Make Sense by Ravi Zacharias and Vince Vitale

Description:

Why would a loving and powerful God allow so much pain and suffering? In WHY SUFFERING? Ravi Zacharias and Vince Vitale carefully walk you through a variety of responses that considered together provide a clear, comprehensive, and convincing answer. Responses like: Where there is the possibility of love, there has to be the reality of freedom, and therefore the possibility of pain. Wishing God had made a different world is to wish yourself out of existence. In comparison with other world religions, the Christian response is highly distinctive.

Here is a book written with great respect for the complexity of the issue, recognizing that some who read it will be in the trenches of deep suffering themselves and others questioning the very existence of a loving God. WHY SUFFERING? provides an answer to the problem of pain and suffering with emotional sensitivity and intellectual integrity.
